Hello everyone. First time posting to this forum.

I’m no well technician but I’ve been working on an old well installed in the 70’s in Lake County Florida. It has a 2 inch galvanized casing.

Seems to be a deep well convertible jet pump installed with an adapter for the 2 inch casing. I was getting about 8gpm from the pump but it would not get anymore than 22psi. The pressure switch is a 20/40 and the bladder tank is set to 18psi. No matter what I could not get the pump to pressurize over 22psi.

Long story short, I just finished pulling the drop pipe out of the well. It was about 40-50 feet down to the foot valve. I believe what I’m looking at is a packet injectior system but I see no leather washers on it at all.

Ps. The water table seems to only be about 15 feet down from ground level.

Hoping some of you pros can help diagnose this issue and guide me in the right direction of what to do next.

It doesn't matter if the foot valve is set at 50', a shallow well jet pump with one pipe and no packer will still work as long as the actual water level doesn't go any deeper than 25'. But I would guess with a 50' well it might go deeper than 25', so a packer would be needed. Are there two pipes coming out of the suction of the pump to a casing adapter?

Post a picture please.

The adapter seems to be bolted straight to the pump with a gasket between. But yes, it has two holes.

If there are not two pipes, it is a shallow well pump and the clogged jet will be on the pump. If there are two pipes to the casing adapter, then there has to be a packer with leathers. If there is no packer, it is senseless to have the foot valve so deep.

Post pictures of what you have if you cannot describe it.

I can see the pictures. I thought once the thread was approved everything was visible? I don't understand.

Anyway, there is no jet at the pump. Looks like a casing adapter, so there must be leathers to seal above the intake foot valve for it to work. Looks like a loose washer and a gap where the cup leather should go.

So my next question is about the leathers.

I went to a local plumbing and well supply house. They had two different types on leather cups. They had small ones that did not at all look like they will fit over the pipe and then make a seal within the 2” casing. And then they had Sta-Rite leathers that were bigger and looked like a perfect fit for the drop pipe and 2” casing.

I’m not sure which of the two I actually need.
