Hi, all. I’m just about ready to set a Delta 500 shower pan over the PVC drain pipe in the floor. I know that the wide flange that is attached to the pan gets caulked with silicone, but I can’t see why it’s not suggested to also swab the black compression gasket that seals the drain to the PVC before tightening that down, too. It seems like doing so would really assure a long term waterproof seal. Why is it not called for in the instructions, would it cause the gasket to deteriorate? Thanks, Lars.

If properly aligned we never have leaks on rubber compression gaskets and they become too slippery with caulk.
