Algea growth in sediment filter

I have a whole house sediment filter just before my pressure tank. It's inside an unlit wellhouse but continues to develop algea growth. What's the best solution to stop this from happening, or is this a normal occurance?

That's a great question. I haven't.
1: how often should this be done.
2: what's the best way to accomlish this?

How often, depends on the well and how often it is needed. Best way, also depends on what you are trying to kill off and how much water is in your well. Most things have to be treated several times and/or regularly. I hate to give well treating advice as there are so many variables. But with my 200', 25 GPM well I circulate a gallon of vinegar, then a strong dose of chlorine. After circulating it in the well and through out my piping system I let it set for a couple hours. Then I pump it until most of the chlorine smell is gone, making sure not to get any in my septic tank.

Things like that filter housing I would let soak in a bucket full of strong chlorine and clean it up.

Keys are lowering the pH, measuring the pH of recirculating water, measuring the chlorine level of recirculating water, and using a flooding volume to push sanitizing solution to the bottom of the well and out to the nearby area. Do not mix the vinegar and bleach directly. I alternate, and let the mixing occur down the well.

With a wider well that will allow pellet clearance, you can drop sanitizing pellets to the bottom to sanitize the bottom area, and the flooding volume could be lower.
