How do I get this thing off the wall? I see nowhere there are screws. Surely it is not a permanent fixture.

Are you sure there isn't a small allen screw or small straight screw on the underneath of the bar, we're talking pretty small.......Both sides, then there should be two brackets screwed into the wall, sometimes a picture will result in the best answer.....

Ceramic?

Is it ceramic glued on with thinset? Those stay on. The metal ones have the little allen screw on the bottom.

One I just installed had a trim ring held on with a friction fit from an o-ring. Another was a snap fit. It had dimples on it that aligned with small slots in the flange, and you could turn it a little bit to essentially wedge it on tight. The o-ring version could have the trim ring pulled away from the wall by just sliding it (it might be easier with prying it slightly). The snap fitted one would likely be a pain to get off, since you had to align the tabs, then pry it off.
