I just had some plumbing replaced in my bathroom.
They replaced the toilet supply line. Should not have done anything else to the toilet, but now I am seeing wet grout lines around the toilet. I’m sure some water was spilled changing the supply line, but the toilet and tiles are dry.
The tile is layed on Schluter Ditra, so the water doesn’t make it to the concrete below.

My question is, does everyone still use just the wax rings, or is there something better now?
Thanks!

I use wax rings almost all of the time. I have used a few other items at times.
The bowl needs to sit flat to the floor, or be shimmed if needed.
The wax needs compression to seal. That might mean one wax ring, a thick wax or two rings stacked.

I often wipe down the floor while I have the old toilet up. It's dry when I'm done though.
Caulk most of the way around the bowl, leaving it open at the back, so that if there is a problem with the seal, you know right away.

Every time I’ve tried to use a wax ring, it was very stiff. Squeezing it a little with my fingers caused it to crack. I don’t see how they ever work. I guess I got lucky with my last one. It made it about 8 years.
