I am installing a free standing tub (no shower) against a wall and wish to locate the (non-diverter) tub spout toward the foot-end of the tub and the valve control toward the head end. Both the spout and the valve will be on the same wall and about 21" from each other. The spout and valve will be more or less horizontally aligned. I don't see any problem with doing it this way. Because I am not a trained plumbing professional, I thought I should ask because one doesn't know what they don't know. Can I do this?

It should work...your tub spout may not drain unless your spout is slightly lower, so there would be a cold slug of water sitting in the line all of the time. Some of the valves can be rotated 180-degrees, putting the larger (tub) outlet on the top. If you went up behind the wall a bit, then sloped it to the tub spout, the line is more likely to drain, but it may take awhile...think finger over the end of a straw...might take many minutes, but it would likely, eventually, drain.

Hey, wait a minute.

This is awkward, but...
