Our 400 foot well has a 1 hp pump at 340 feet, with a static water depth of 300 feet; information from five years ago. Anyway, we had a new pump put in 4 years ago from a 1.5 hp to a 1hp, recently it began switching on and off. It's under warranty so the contractor came out and diagnosed it to be a pump that is overheating. The cause is left to be determined...either lightning, a bad pressure tank or too much iron in the water.
Question: We are now deciding if we should replace the pump with what was originally placed in the well, which was a 1.5 hp or a 1 hp. We have talked to many "experts" and researched on-line, but still need to make a decision about the strength. If we do go with a 1 hp, what should the GPM be and psi's. We are thinking of a 1 hp, with 10 gpm...but not sure of the psi's. Can you help?
