Pot Filler Bomb?

Built a new home recently and my wife had to have a pot filler mounted behind the stove. All was well until Christmas dinner was being cooked with pots boiling all day on the cooktop. The pot filler faucet sprung a leak after one of the elbows physically separated - apparently due to pressure buildup. There are two valves on the faucet - one at the wall and one at the spout. This obviously creates a space with no expansion room for the water within. All the faucets I've seen are designed this way. Yes, the cooktop has adequate ventilation (1000 cfm). Thoughts?

I've never heard of this. I would suspect thermal expansion could cause this. I know the unit at my sisters house they only use the valve on the wall.
