I'm going to have a professional repipe my 27 year old two story 2,800 sq ft house with PEX. He says that he will use a trunk and branch system and implies that it is easier and better that way (no crawl space or attic in the house). All the PEX information I've read online indicates that the home run system or a hybrid version of it is best. Is there any reason I shouldn't allow a branch system repipe?

I started off plumbing doing the branch system with copper. It's all about the sizing.
PEX is smaller than copper and about the same size as CPVC on the inside. Both options work.

IMO the main advantage of a home run system is the hot water gets to the end quicker. Doing home run, you could even do 3/8, and that gets hot water coming out about 4x faster than 3/4. Branch is easier and saves pipe.

If it does not hurt your sense of symmetry, you could do some home runs for some hots, and run cold in a branch.
