I bought this house 3 years ago. The house was built in 1962. The previous owner of the house lived here for 30 years she didn't know what it was. It's some sort of cast iron basin/trap
that is not connected to my ejector pit or my sump pump. When it rains hard it starts to fill up, both areas. But it smells bad when I open it. I have drain tile that goes around my house and into a sump pump. I want to fill it and tile over it. Can someone please tell me what this is. I live in the Chicagoland area.

It looks to be an old cast iron basement floor drain: https://www.google.com/search?clien.....0.0.0....0.Y4Rw9apRfto#imgrc=7W7SBajFTjLYnM:

Maybe part of an old wash sink drain system:

Or, maybe just a place for "accidents" to disappear:

Yeh it looks like a cast iron floor drain that may have been used for and old wash sink. Their was an old sink that looked almost exactly like the one pictured. But how in the world does it fill with water when it rains hard? I have above ground sewers.
