Hello,

Need to install new closet flange on old 1936 4" Cast Iron pipe. Original plan was to install a Sioux Chief Push Tite gasket flange 886 GA, so I can set to proper height on top of new tile install. A local store should have it in stock in a couple of days. However, I'm not sure it will work now as the bend in the pipe starts almost immediately, so I'm worried the bottom gasket won't seal properly. I've read on their site that it can be cut, and extended if needed. So, I was thinking then maybe ok to also cut and shorten? Then slide the gasket up? The top of the pipe is currently 1/2" below new 1 inch hex tile and 1/4" hardibacker. Any problems with this I'm not thinking of?

Another plan, I could remove a bit of the tile and hardie around the pipe to accommodate a new CI or brass flange that will slip over the outside like the old damaged one I had to remove. I don't have lead soldering tools, ladle, etc. and am on a bit of a budget. I've heard some have had good results using Hercules Plastic Seal in place of traditional lead and oakum. Below is YouTube video, only difference seems is he has lead bend instead of CI and forms with hammer. Think this might be better route? Brass or CI flange better?

Lastly, I will be installing a Toto Vespin ii toilet. Thin 1/8" hex tile, 1/4" hardie, with about 1" ply under that. Should I use the suggested cement/tile install anchors screws for the unifit, or different method better for my setup?

Really appreciate the advice.

What is the ID of that 1.7 inch deep pipe?

What is the distance of the center of that pipe to the wall? To get the center, take the average of the near edge to the far edge.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply Reach.

My best novice measuring skills indicate inner dimension of the pipe to be 3 7/8", and 12 7/8" from wall to the center of the pipe. (I'm hoping to also install 1/2" baseboard if fits, otherwise will modify).

Appreciate it

http://www.siouxchief.com/docs/defa...nge-with-swivel-ring---pushtite.pdf?sfvrsn=10 looks like the tail is too long.

https://www.culwellflange.com/products says "Compression joint allows up to 3” of adjustment to riser" but not for what you need. You need to have the tail including the seal to be under 2 inches.

That PDF shows how to to extend a Push-Tite Gasketed Closet Flange (887-GPM) to go deeper. I wonder if you could cut out a segment, and make the flange work for a shallower case.

Yep, that is exactly what I was trying to explain with my first option (I'm just not too good at it.) Just didn't know if the extension being shortend with the gasket so close to the top if that would compromise the seal in any way. Ex, using a plunger etc. Otherwise, kind of wonder why someone doesn't make a short version to begin with. Is my configuration just maybe that rare?

Appreciate it

Also, was thinking supposed to use the 886 instead of the 887 because that one seems approved to go into CI and has a beefier seal, whereas the 886 looks to go into pvc and seal looks smaller. I could be wrong.

When you get dimensions on one of these, post them. https://terrylove.com/forums/index....drain-pipe-on-3-steel-pipe.60569/#post-449676 has a photo and measurements I took at a store when they had the stainless steel 3 inch version in stock.

Also check Genova Products 75158S Universal Closet Flange with Stainless Steel Ring, 4"
like pushtite but big gasket with stainless ring. It would be nice to have those dimensions too.
