Making my own membrane-sealing tape

Quick question, Is the Laticrete sealing tape the same material as the Laticrete sheet membane? I ask because I am thinking I can just cut my own sealing tape strips from the sheet instead of buying a separate sealing tape. I should have plenty of extra membrane from the roll, seems a waste not to use it. Thanks in advance for your help!
