Hi so the other day I took a shower and the downstairs toilet started to overflow. We rented a hundred foot snake and removed the clog . . . everything was working fine. A day and a half later the laundry was running and the downstairs toilet started to Overflow again. Both times when the toilet overflowed we could not put anything down the drain anywhere in the house otherwise the toilet would keep overflowing
? Anybody help is this a main sewer line problem

If this downstairs toilet is the lowest point of the home, 1st floor or basement, most likely. Is the washer on the same level as the toilet? Is the washer drain before or after the toilet on the way to the outside sewer connection. Is the toilet the last fixture to the sewer connection? is there any large tree over the sewer pipe to the street? Is the pipe cast iron or PVC to the street connection?

When you removed the clog, and the snake may only have punched through the block but may not have completely cleared the pipe. The current block could be at the same location.

The downstairs toilet is the lowest point of the home, one the 1st floor. Is the washer Is upstairs. The washer drain is before the toilet on the way to the outside sewer connection. Yes toilet is the last fixture to the sewer.

No doubt the block is somewhere past the toilet. Could be tree roots or the cast iron or clay pipe collapsed.
