elbow immediately on supply outlet

Just looked at this water heater at a friends hone....does this elbow on the hot side suppose to be this soon? is there anything wrong here?

The first elbow should be after 12"of straight vertical pipe.

Wait... are we talking about the copper pipe or the steel exhaust elbow?

There is no issue with the copper elbow where it is.

I think the exhaust looks just fine too as far as distance and direction are concerned.

Yeah I guess I thought the question was related to the exhaust. I think it's fine all around. The exhaust looks to be ok (except that tape, there should be screws under the tape), and the copper is fine.
