Hi currently boiler has been off for about 6 months because of the weather. Now that the weather is breaking going to start putting on the heat. Noticed this morning that the pressure should be higher. I think it should be between 15-20. It’s below that. When adding pressure should I add it now when it’s cold or do I need to have the heat on? Thanks!

Cold. The pressure will climb when the heat starts.

The cold fill pressure is based of the height from the boiler to your highest radiator. If you have only one story 12 to 15 psi is plenty for a cold pressure.

Ruff measurement from bottom of boiler to the top of highest heat emitter? Expansion tank pressure in the bladder should match the water pressure in a cold boiler with all pumps off. Need a 50 lb tire gage and a hand tire pump. Valve will be under a plastic cap opposite piping end.

Yes. 15 to 18 possibly depending on the height. 1 psi will lift water a little over 2 ft. You want 3 to 5 psi after the lift and the water is on the second floor.
