Bathroom sink replacement - off-center from drain

We're replacing our old 54" bathroom vanity with a shorter 48" vanity. However, if I keep the sink centered on the drain pipe we'll have some open space between one edge of the vanity and the wall - which I don't want. So, we can move it into the corner but then the center of the sink will be to the right of the drain in the wall. Is there a max distance this can be off-centered from the drain? I think it will only be about 3" and am assuming that's manageable and within plumbing code. I don't want to do some goofy DIY job on this so thought I'd ask for some professional advice.

You can swivel the trap and maybe pick up that much, or put a 45 at the wall and head toward the drain if needed.
New cabinet? Check to see if the drain at the wall will work with it for height. Some cabinets now are raised on legs with drawers on the lower part. That may mean raising the drain in the wall.
