Wondering if there any plumbers on here knowledgable about wells? My buddy keeps running out of water. Water pressure is usually around 40 when the pump is thru it's full cycle. He will use his water and then it just stops coming out for hours. When the pump is pressurized to 40 he gets water and then it runs dry again. Could it be clogged filters? No sediment seems to be coming out of the taps in his house.

You should post this on the pumps and wells forum. They will want to know a bunch more about the system. Pump type, filters, where is pressure tank and switch in the system, what kind and size of pressure tank.

Is there a drain at the tank? Have you tried it?

40 psi is kind of low. Has the pressure in the tank bladder (if it has one) been properly pressurized?
