Good morning folks.
I need some help please...
The grease trap septic tank that services the washer & sink
started bubbling up through the ground!
I happened to be plumbing a new addition to the other tank, when I found this.
Got them both pumped yesterday, lot's of grease in the kitch one, since we're off Adkins diet, that should help!!
Anyway, question... can I tie the kitch/washer/trap drain field into the drain field of the other system? (not the tank)
Husband says yea, no prob. I feel if any grease gets in there, which it shouldn't, this would be deep caca.
We should be on public sewer in a few or 5 years, though if I believe that...
I look forward to hearing from you.
Oh, also, I hace to cut through the cast iron pipe.
I've heard there is a kind of diamond rope thingee to do this with & then a neoprene sleeve. Can I get these at the box or would I need to go to, say, Fergusons. I did the last of the stack out yesterday & may post a pic to make sure I got that right.
Thanx, Mia

You should not be placing any greese at all down the in the system. It should be poured off and placed in the trash or saved and you could mix it with lye and water and make soap. :) Then it can go down the drain.

The nature of your question leads me to believe that you do not possess the skills/experience to be cutting into your drain system. If indeed you need drain work done, you would be well advised to hire a qualified plumbing contractor. There isn't any problem that is much worse than a fouled up drain system.

Thanx for the thoughts.
Just got back from ace with everything I need, I had the sawzall blade
The only plumber in this area, who'll give a decent price, told my neighbor that he could not fix her leaking faucets! I fixed them. He also cut a large whole in a ceiling & left it.
With all the new building going on, it's hard to get a fair shake from a pro.
I'll give it a whack.
The only oil that goes down is butter or mayo off a spoon or knife, or salad dressing film on a plate, which I would think is quite normal?!
Thanx for the suggestions Gary & Cass.

You already know what happened to the tank because it was either not serviced or installed correctly. The EXACT SAME thing will happen to the septic field if you connect that pipe to it. The material HAS to flow through the tank in order to be separated into solids and liquid. The liquid being the only thing that should go into your field.

You got it! We've only ever cleaned the one tank!
So, 9 years later  cleaned it yesterday and today we dug down to make sure the drain fields were good...:) Thanx

If I am hearing you correctly, you have a grease trap between your kitchen/washer and a drain field, and now you want to route the outlet of that trap to the drain field for your septic tank. As already said, that is a very bad idea leading to the imminent failure of the second drain field.

You would be far better off getting your washing machine out to a drain field of its own, thoroughly cleaning your grease trap and routing its outlet into your septic tank. That, I believe, will buy you the most time before hooking up to a municipal sewage system.

I'll clarify...yesterday I had both cleaned. It was the grease trap/washer kithen tanks' 1st time! y...I don't know y...today I checked to make sure there were drain fields for the above mentioned tank & yes they are good.
All is good- they are & will stay separate. Thanx ;)

Thank God! lol - I was afraid you really were going to reroute to the other drainfield!

FYI - the grease trap tank is there for a reason. All the grease and food that goes down your kitchen sink line - even when you're very careful - can cause your drainfield to fail - quickly. That's the last thing you want.

Try using a bacterial/enzyme drain treatment to help your grease trap tank to work as efficiently as possible. I know of a good one, but that would be blatently advertising my company's products. ;)
