Can anyone comment on the smart circ logic? I am not too interested in smart anything... I want the recirc to be on from 5am to 11pm... is this easy to set on the latest Rinnai's?

Thanks!!!

I called them. The WiFi controller supposedly will one day have a little support to connect into a smart home system which would allow me to really customize control of the recirc like I want. The burner warranty is 12000 hours so probably not the best idea to have it recircing all day even though I presume the burner is only on for a short period until the loop gets hot. My loop is heavily insulated so hopefully that will keep the burner time low.

I would like to one day though have recirc come on when motion is detected in the house by my smart home system. So it looks like the Wifi model... even though I am hesitant to add one more piece of unreliable wireless gear to the house... is probably the way to go.

Thanks to all for the advice.

We have an RUR199iP it is WiFi connected and we can use our app to schedule the recirc pump schedule. However we elected to use buttons at our faucets to activate the pump. We have had it about a year now and we really love it. Our propane usage is down 350-400 gal this year too. I forgot you can also use the Amazon Alexa to turn on the recirc also. Alexa has some issues but my wife likes it.

Interesting. How long does it take to get how water once you push the button? I've been thinking of using a motion sensor to enable recirc but it would take a little work to get that hooked up since it seems Rinnai has discontinued their native motion sensors...

Laundry and Kitchen less than 60 seconds (front of the loop) Bathrooms and showers maybe 90-120 seconds. We usually just tell Alexia to start recirculation undress for shower and by that time we have hot water. Or Ill use the app start it and head back to shower. The buttons only recirculate for 5 min per push which is plenty for most applications. Using Alexa or the phone app allows us to set a longer recirc time if needed. I purchased 5 buttons (6 max so they say) one in each bathroom, the kitchen sink and the washing machine. We have a long insulated loop 200 ft or so.

So my observations about the recirc pump:
Activation is flawless
Recirc pump only runs until the returning water temp hits set point then it stops. We do not run a schedule so I can't say for sure but I'm assuming the pump would start again as the loop temp cools on longer schedules.
Loop charge 2 min or less
Some minor issues with water temp at the shower head pump on vs pump off. If I start the shower water running while the pump is still on (from button) very hot water. Once the pump goes off it is noticeably cooler and requires a temp change at the faucet. If we wait until the loop is hot and the pump is off then we do not have to make any temp adjustments throughout our shower. I do not have temp compensating shower valves.

Otherwise we are very pleased with the Rinnai. Looked at the Navian but they did not have the button flexibility with their units. That has been a couple of years though. What we have seen is a significant reduction in propane usage. I have also had a couple of buttons that lost their programming once each. I had to go to the unit and reprogram them and problem was solved.
