Thread: Is it safe to fertilize with a private well?

  1. #1

Question Is it safe to fertilize with a private well?

I have a private well and submerged pump. Is it safe to use standard fertilizers on my lawn? Will the chemicals end up in my water and cause problems in my system, health hazards, etc...........

I assume that you have a submersible deep well pump with a casing that is properly sealed, and drainage is not collecting water around the casing. If so, you are probably OK. You might want to get the water tested for nitrates if you have been fertilizing for a while. That is the most likely indicator of fertilizer contamination.

If you use anything with heavy metals on your lawn, then you should check for that kind of contamination.
