We Recently Purchased And Moved Into A House With A Well. It Has No Filter Or Conditioner. We Know Nothing About Wells And Would Like To Know What We Need To Have Installed To Make It Safe And Healthy And Effective And Odor Free. Any Suggestions That You Can Make As To What We Need And Possibly Brands Would Be Appreciated. The Only Filter Systems That We Have Found Are The Cheap One With The Replaceable Filter. This Doesn't Seem Very Effecient. Thanks, Geraldine.

The first thing you need is a water test to determine if you have iron, hardness, or other things that need treatment.

If you read the posts on this forum, you will conclude that you should learn everything there is to know about your system before it gives you trouble. Then, you will be able to resolve many problems yourself at great saving in cost, and know when you must call a pro.

Do you have a shallow well or a deep well? What kind of pump? What kind and size of pressure tank?

What are the details of the well, pump, and tank? Get manuals (usually available on line) for everything in the system.
Depth of well, depth to water.
Model and pressure/flow characteristics of the pump.
Size and type of pressure tank, and operating pressure. Learn how to check and add air to the tank.
Learn about the pressure switch, how to set it, and the other controls in the system.

If you learn about the system when it is working, you will not be desperate when it fails to work.

Take the time necessary to learn about filters and treatment systems, and costs for systems. Check on line and in this forum. Then you will be an informed consumer when you decide what you need.
