I am an experienced plumber but have very little experience with well systems. I want to learn about them so, here goes:
I have a customer who has a jet pump pulling from an old hand dug well about 40' from house and the water level in the well is roughly 25-35' below grade. It is a two pipe system. Yesterday a 1/2" copper line in the house froze and burst and now the pump runs continuously but will not begin pumping. I primed it repeatedly (6-10 gallons) and cannot get it to start picking up water. I think the pump has been running dry for the last 24 hrs and it makes more noise than I think it should.
I am a novice when it comes to well systems and really don't understand much about the two pipe systems. I came to the conclusion that I did everything that should have primed the pump so it needs a new pump but I am a little worried that what I don't understand about the two pipe system could be the culprit.
Thanks in advance for any help any of you can offer while I learn about this.
