I replaced a pressure switch that had just melted today. The pump ran for 30 minutes afterward then quit. I noticed that the motor was humming and not turning. I couldn't see any burned wires in the top control for the motor. I did see a starter capacitor and wondered if it could be the problem?

The motor is Sta-Rite MSE-6 1 hp about 8 years old. It is on top of the pump held on by two bolts which seem to be stripping when I tried them.

Can I replace this motor myself?

Can I/should I find a replacement capacitor and try it?

I noticed in another thread that a Betta Flo motor may replace the Sta-Rite and be less expensive. Is this true and where could I get one?
