We have a pressure tank about 30 years old and rusting at the bottom. Its in a well pit that comes off the well pump. 2 house use the well and each has its own pressure tank in each house. Is the tank in the well pit necessary or would the houses have sufficient pressure with its own pressure tanks?

The pressure switch controlling the pump should be at the pressure tank.

One or more pressure tanks do not increase the pressure in the system.

I think you don't want to replace the rusted tank and just want to remove it but... usually there is only one right way to do most things and I'd replace the tank.
