I took the advice of a trusted water softener installer when he told me that I would be better off with an iron filter. He has done a lot of good work for me in the past. However, this time I'm concerned because he ran the drain pipe from the iron filter into my sump pump. He said he had to because the filter's drain pipe needs a 4 ft. drop for every 30 feet, and my floor drain is on the oposite corner of the basement. Although my sump pump is only a year old, I'm worried that it could go out while the iron filter is in a cycle (in the middle of the night) and overflow my sump pump reservoir. Is it better to run the iron filter drain about 60 ft. along the walls to the floor drain, or is it better to keep it in the sump pump about 10 feet away?
