A plumber recently replaced the cleanout for my mainline that crumbled (clay). I haven't filled in the hole yet. I want to know if it would be okay to shorten the length of the pipe so that it could stay underground and not be an eyesore in my frontyard.

cleanouts

One fact that you can depend on is that once a cleanout is covered over it is essentially lost forever. Landscapers do it all the time and we spend hours searching for them. Often we have to have the line scoped to see where it goes and where the opening is. DO NOT BURY IT.
