I don't know if this question might be better posed on an electrical forum, but here goes: With my newly installed (cistern) float switch controlling a definite purpose contactor which provides power to a Pumptec protector, I am observing the following: when the water level drops from laundry, showers, etc. the contactor may be energized for hours. The well pump may run for five minutes before the Pumptec kicks her off, and then resupplies power after the delayed setting, and the cycle begins again. The Pumptec was set for a delay of 90 minutes; right or wrong I dropped it to 45. Regardless, the contactor may remained energized for hours on end until the float switch reaches the desired level. Are these contactors designed to be energized for such durations?
Anyone?
