Hello,

What is the purpose of a foot valve? I have an existing well with 1 1/4 pipe at 31 feet total well depth. I have static water in pipe at 19'. I have a gauze type point that is about 3' long.

What would a foot valve in the well do for me.

Thanks!

I believe it is a check valve that keeps water from draining out of the pump/pipe assembly. I also believe that this is used on a jet pump that would lose prime if it drained.

Someone who is more experienced will answer.

I think you described an 1-1/4" well. If so, you don't want a foot valve in your well, it would have to be a 3/4" to fit into the pipe and would be a bad restriction on your suction inlet to the pump. Just use a check valve (1-1/4") as close to the well as practical.
