Bathtub trip lever issues!

I need some assistance. I was just cleaning the shower drain and took off teh face plate and the pin holding the trip lever on must have broken and the whole lever frll down the drain. What are my next steps???? Please help!

Are you talking about the overflow plate w/trip lever?
The drain assembly is held onto the trip lever with a cotter pin. You should be able to fish the assembly out of the overflow pipe with a piece of stiff wire.
