Ok. so my washer backed up into my plug-still-in-bathtub yesterday. And it got pretty full, like 2 inches from the top, nothing going down the overflow either. And this morning, the water hadn't gone down, not even one drop. Thought it would at least go down a tiny bit; not one little bit. Sinks and commode all draining fine, so I start bailing water out of the tub into the sink. I keep going and going and notice a bunch of what looks like dryer lint all in the water. BUT THEN... the tub suddenly starts draining. an continued draining until all was gone and rinsed it out with the shower and still draining. Now whats the sicience behind all that? By the way, I completely removed the tub stopper yesterday. Why would it suddenly start draining by me bailing the water out? that makes no sense. Oh and the plunger wasn't moving anything either. well, no more leaving the bath water thinking I'm going to get back in it. And now, I'll try the washer again. See if there's some kind of lint filter I should be cleaning. but still scientifically and graviital (from the word, "gravity") strange to me.
