I have three toilets in a house. One toilet works fine. The other two almost always require a plunger to get the waste down , but once plunged, they flush normally until the next time they are used. Liquids seem to flush fine, but they seem to have problems with solids. Should I suspect defective toilets or a blockage within the sewer pipe that may need snaking? Thank you

Get a 5 gallon or bigger container. Pour water from that into the center of the bowl from as high as you comfortably can as fast as you dare. If it takes the water, then that pretty much means the piping is ok. If your path is largely blocked, even down the line some, the air may not be able to get out of the way fast enough If you have any doubt, get the pipes cleaned by a drain cleaning specialist.

The toilets could indeed be the problem. Good toilets and others pretty much all use a "siphon jet" If that gets limed up, flushing deteriorates, but the water deluge poured in flushes fine.

My thinking is to replace the worst toilet. If things work great, replace the other.
