I was called in for an emergency today at one of the schools I take care of. A terrazo floor sink had a catastrophic leak and ruined a ceiling below it. I noticed the floor drain was just a baldy, not tied into the drain line. I trapped the floor drain and tied it into the drain line. It was no-hub, so it wasn't too bad. Ran water, it leaked. I discovered the cast iron riser into the sink wasn't oakumed and leaded. Plumber's putty was used instead of oakum, and silicon caulk instead of lead. I then discovered another sink was done the same way. Cha-ching! Unfortunately, this was done by union plumbers from a local contractor. It's barely a year old. I told the building services director to send my bill to the installing contractor. Now I will probably go around to all of the newer schools and check all the mop sinks. Cha-ching.
