Hi, Planning to add a shower in a large powder room on slab. I have access to drains/vents from the second level 16-20" from the proposed shower center. Does the depth of the 2" p-trap affect the drain efficiency? If I put the trap as close to the shower floor as possible - will the person eventually be standing in water?

Not significantly. No.

Find out what plumbing code applies to you, because that affects your venting rules. It is not the same statewide in Mo.

If you can join the lavatory drain with the shower drainage within the prescribed distance, that will simplify venting, because that is a wet vent.

Actually, a long riser from a trap often is not ideal, since that means more pipe exposed that could collect slim and crud that can smell. The water seal at the trap stops not only sewer gasses, but any smells from crud that may accumulate on the walls of the pipe so the less pipe exposed after the trap, the better IMHO.
