The plumber installed the Fleck 5600 SXT based water softener without the bypass valve since he also installed 3 way bypass pipes with ball valve on incoming and outgoing pipes.

Is there always a need to install bypass valve. Will it affect the running of the softener.

If the plumber installed a 3 valve bypass, that is all that is required if you should ever need to bypass the flow to the softener.

Not utilizing the Fleck built bypass valve should not affect the operation of the softener.

If the softener should ever need to be removed for service, after bypassing the flow, residual pressure in the softener may be relieved by advancing the controller to Back Wash. On the rear of the control valve is a yoke which the connection lines are threaded to. There are two metal clamps holding the yoke to the valve. Once the clamps are removed, the yoke may be pulled away from the softener valve with the connection lines remaining connected to the yoke.

The Fleck bypass is an exceptional component that can last for many years but... a good quality 3 valve bypass is even better.
