Hey,

We have a stairwell off the uphill side of the house. Bottom of the stairwell is about 4 feet below grade.

It has a small iron grate and a 2" steel pipe running about 10 feet into the yard.

It has clogged once or twice in the past 20 years. I was able to clean it out by running a hose at moderate pressure down the pipe, and collecting the silt as it was washed out by the water flow.

The cleanout was going well, until it started draining VERY slowly.

I used a manual sewer snake on the pipe. It goes in about 10 feet.

Has anyone seen this sort of problem?

How did you fix it?

Thanks,

Rog S

You may have to get a plumber with a "real" snake. Once it is opened, I'd suggest a more frequent cleaning with the hose.

I would take a look at a medium Brasscraft drain bladder.

Thanks for the responses.

I did not make the situation as clear as I could have....

This is not a sanitary drain. (No trap)

It drains rain/snowmelt in the stairwell to the yard.

Thanks again,

Rog

I have something like that in my driveway.
One of these times I will need to dig out beyond the driveway and see where that pipe goes. I had one home where I replaced all my downspout plumbing in the ground. That old stuff was full of dirt.

I have problems in my yard when we get several inches of rain in a short period of time. But, it's not real plumbing. You need landscape people.
