Direct Vent Fireplace, Vent sealant

I put in a direct vent freestanding Gas fireplace. Vent runs straight out the back to outside maybe 12-14" to the termination box. I only used hi heat silicon on the exhast. None on the fresh air intake. Its all hard pipe connections. Does the fresh air need silicon

If the pipe is tight in the fittings i wouldn't.

What is the reason for not using silicone? If it's tight, okay. But you wouldn't want insects or drafts coming in there.
