I’m cleaning up a basement wall, and came to this 1.5” pipe coming out of the wall that seems to be an abandoned line. It seems to be an old gas supply line, but I’m not 100% sure.
I screwed off on of the plugs, with some soapy water applied, and there was a very slow bubble that formed after the plug was fully removed. But it didn’t smell like rotten eggs at all.

Any idea what this is, and if I can demo it back to ~2” to the concrete wall?
