I am adding a shower to my basement bathroom, and there is a cleanout where the shower is to go. It is flush with the concrete slab. I need to raise it about 1/2" to flush with my shower mortar bed. My question is, will installing it around the tile with thinset, mortar, and grout, be enough to keep water from getting under the rest of my tiles? Is there another way to go about this that I a not thinking of?

Having a cleanout in the shower receptor would be very unusual and seems highly undesirable. It would be hard or impossible to waterproof the shower receptor. Move the shower or the cleanout.
