American standard wide faucet can’t remove handle

This is an older widespread American standard faucet. The left control now just spins freely at the top, but if I connect the water and twist the body above the sink I can control the water. I cannot figure out how to remove it. FYI I bought a new set in case I couldn’t fix it. I don’t see any plug or set screw. Any help? Thanks so much.
