Hello,
If a kitchen stove has only three wires and no dedicated ground, can a single ground wire be run from the box directly to the stove chassis? This would avoid purchasing a new outlet and 6/3 wire.

Thanks in Advance,
Bill

No, it does not meet code when done that way (unless the wires were run as single conductors in a conduit then, yes, you could add one to the run, but not as a single wire with an existing cable). The instructions with the stove will show how to use the existing 3-wire plug which, at least for now (in most places) is grandfathered. Essentially, inside of the stove, there will be a place to connect the internal ground to the neutral wire.

Hey, wait a minute.

This is awkward, but...
