A few years ago we purchased a fixer upper and now I’m to the well (irrigation). I’m told the suction pipe is about 30’ feet deep (were at sea level), so last night I tied some string to a weight and dropped it down. I was surprised when the weight stopped 6” below grade. The original owners had a pump hooked up at one point but removed it at the union. I’d guess that was 10 years ago and it’s been unused since. The union is horizontal and out of the weather for the most part but it was not capped off. I’m under the impression that doesn’t matter and the pipe is full because it hasn’t been used and I’ll have to have a new one sunk?

Thanks

Is that a 2 inch steel pipe that you dropped your weight into?
