Any suggestions?

I solvent welded a single, 1 1/2 inch compression fitting to my stub out and installed all of my cabinets prior to learning that per local code I need a trap for each bowl of my double bowl sink if I am going to have a garbage disposal. The gents at Homers suggested a 3 X 1 wye with a plug in the center outlet, but I only have about 3/4 of an inch of excess pipe.

Would I be able to put some type of threaded connector on the existing fitting and then weld on the wye? Or is there something else that would work short of not installing the disposer? Thanks.

It will depend on whether it is a female schedule 40 fitting, or the thin one that comes with a trap. If it s a sch. 40, then you can use a female street adapter and cement the double Y to it. If it is the thin one, then you have to cut it off and glue the Y directly to the pipe.

why do you have to use a cross wye? wht not screw a spigot x fem adapter onto your comp adapt which should be 1-1/2" male after you unscrew the slip nut. and then use a regular wye, 45 offa the straight end and position the garbage disposer outlet at corresponding angle to make it all straight and do the same for other side of sink.
What I find really strange here is that local code allows you to waste two seperate lines into one 1-1/2 line! but will not allow the both to go thru same trap.

I wasn't planning on the double trap, but ran across a reference to potential code issues if one wasn't installed. I call my local plumbing inspector, and sure enough, it is required by the local building code. Go figure!

My plan is to remove the nut from the solvent welded compression fitting and screw on a female adaptor (everything is sched 40), then attached a 45 degree double wye, not a cross wye. My original concern was would I have enough room to attach the drains from the sink?? I have the sink now, even though the countertop doesn't go in until Monday, and I believe I am ok.

Sink, traps, garbage disposal and faucet installed. Traps weren't as big a deal as I had feared. Just need to install my diswasher this weekend and my complete gut and re-model kitchen is complete. YEA!!!!!! :D :D :D
