In our reno we have added marble to the wall resulting in loss of about 3/4 inches to install our new Toto Ultramax MS854114S (on 12", now 10.5"). I anticipated this and at least asked the tilesetter to leave an extra inch of plywood bare in front of the existing flange.

Any suggestions on how best to deal with this? We have a joist below but it looks like with a bit of trimming I could install an offset flange. Thanks for any help you can provide.

By the way, have put same toilets into two other bathrooms after reviewing this forum and they are truly phenomenal. :)

You're doing things backwards...you should have moved the flange before you installed the tile...

Offset flanges are to be avoided. If you've got access to the flange to replace, you should probably just move the pipes to put a standard flange where it needs to go. Time to tear up the ceiling below and move some things around.

My guess is that you didn't raise the flange so it was on top of the new finished floor (or you would have moved it then)...so, you're stuck with a flange that is too low as well. An offset flange with it too low is asking for problems in my unprofessional opinion. Time to fix it right.

The alternative is buy a new toilet...

Thanks for the advice - unfortunatley I didn't realize the potential problem until the tilesetter was almost finished. I have access in the ceiling below so it should be easy enough to extend the pipes.
