Cultured marble, as opposed to "real" marble, has an acrylic top coat. I use putty on these all the time with no ill effects, but more and more plumbers are preferring silicone instead of putty on all their flanges.

This is only time I use silicone, all other material I use putty, and I will always use silicone on the bottom side of all lav pop-up assembly, too many times having to take them apart to solve a leak, put that to a stop real fast, like doing it once and only once.

SiouxChief has come out with a new product called the "No Putty Gasket"
I've had good success with them on various surfaces.
