Gawd Awful Rialto - flapper or valve

I've had the Rialto for about.....8-9 years now I think.
It was a basement remodel.

Since then, I must have replaced the awful flapper 2X and the valve 1x - cause the awful thing decides to leak every now and then. It's the darn flapper that doesn't sit right but each time you look and check, it's all good......

So for the umpteenth time, what do you guys suggest. Get a OEM flapper or the Korky equivalent that would fit ? Or should I swap the valve out as well......

The next time this things need service....the sledgehammer is coming out ;-)

If you've replaced the flapper 2x in 8 years, that's pretty Gawd awful good :D

Try a Korky equivalent next time. Maybe you'll get 10 years out of that.

I'm a bit lost.....are you stating the flappers are often meant to be changed more often .

I did a search on the forum and the issues with the Rialto seem to be a common issue.

There are certain Kohler toilets that you cannot use anything other than OEM replacement parts.

If the flush valve accepts off-brand replacement parts, go with the red korky chemical resistant flapper. It's about $6 and withstands chlorine better than it's other, the black one.

If your water has a high chlorine level or you are putting those chlorine tablets in the tank.......that is why you are having these problems.

A flapper does not last a lifetime. It is a maintenance item. It takes about 5 minutes to replace. You've had to change it twice in 8 years. That's hardly a reason to take a sledgehammer to the toilet.

Now this computer is another thing.....
