I just had my PRV replaced by a plumber. my main is PVC, the joint were the pvc screws into the brass fitting on the PRV has a slow leak and I mean slow about one drip in about 12 hours he came and looked at it and said the lime will seal it in a week or so and it would be better to let it seal than cut it all and have to reglue and stuff. Does this sound right? I really dont want to go thru the glueing and stuff again also my main is getting shorter.

Thanks

1 drip in 12 hrs or so is a very small leak. I'd give the plumber's advise a good shot to work. You don't have much to lose. If it doesn't heal itself in a couple of weeks or so, then you might want to consider surgery.

If he installed the PRV properly there would be a union on the outlet side and redoing the joint would not require any "cutting and regluing".

it is leaking on the inlet side it is pvc.

So? You loosen the union on the outlet side and rotate the PRV to tighten the inlet side. Or remove the PRV, redope the threads and reinstall it.

I guess if it does not stop I will call him in a few weeks and have him tighten it up.

I would give it about 3 days. If it doesn't happen by then it is probably never going to stop.

well he told me to wait two weeks so I guess i will and I am not sure about the union thing I think there is one one the inlet and only a copper threaded pipe on the outlet threaded into the PVR on one side and water shut off on other. On the inlet is a brass think bolted on to the male threads on the PVR with a collar and then the PVC is threaded into it.

That is the union so it is a five minute or less job to loosen it and retighten the connection.
