Hi all, I would very much appreciate input on building a whole-home water filtration system. I received quotes from Kinetico and Streamline Services for $9-10k with all proprietary equipment. Their standup chemistry lab sales pitch also felt extremely gimmicky.
Our well water flow is ~10 gpm for 7 people. Apparently the local water table is known for “leakage” after heavy rains. We’re dealing with a positive E. coli bacteria reading and high turbidity after rains such that the water becomes visibly cloudy and yellow. I’m told it’s a fine clay or silt that doesn’t settle out and will require a dual tank(?) approach. One of the quotes mentioned needing <0.5 micron for it.
Priorities are:
I installed the UV and a set of 20”x4.5” blue filter containers. I’m attempting to find options for the above but I’m honestly overwhelmed by the parameters, brands, etc.
Here are the abnormal inorganic chem results from the county lab (units mg/L):
Calcium ---------- 39
Iron -------------- 0.536
Manganese --------- 0.157
pH ---------------- 7.4
Magnesium -------- 11
Sodium ----------- 34.5
Total alkalinity- 165
Total hardness -- 142

Priorities are:
- UV filter (currently have iSpring from Amazon)
- Sediment filter for UV (have 25 micron -> 5 micron)
- More advanced sediment filtering for the turbidity
- Handling the manganese, iron, and other inorganics below.
