Looking for help with resolving the water test results that just came back, and have also attached a copy of the well drilling details for the property. Had sanitized the well with bleach and vinegar per process about weeks prior to the test which helped with odor in the water.

Concerned with the bacteria for sure, but also the existing RainSoft softener does not remove all the iron so there is still slow staining in toilets and really bad water spots afterwards.

Appreciate the insight before just randomly installing equipment that may or may not resolve this situation.

The softener should have removed the iron. I presume your 0.12 mg/l (same as ppm) iron is from a water test from before the softener. You should check the residual hardness to see that the softener is working well. The Hach 5-B test is good for checking hardness including residual hardness.

Galvanized pipes could be adding iron.

If the H2S is good now, then good. If not, my H2S+iron treatment is good for me. It uses Centaur Carbon and a 15-gallon solution tank I fill with a gallon chlorine bleach and the rest water. There are other good treatments, but mine only takes 5 gpm for backwash of a 10 inch tank. I also have a powered anode for the WH.

Was your sanitizing using my sanitizing write-up https://terrylove.com/forums/index....izing-extra-attention-to-4-inch-casing.65845/ including the flooding volume aspect and sanitizing all of your plumbing?

I followed the sanitizing method you noted after replacing the pressure tank last month.

The sample was taken after letting the water run for 5 min, was taken upstream from the new pressure tank, and there is not any galvanized pipe or such in the system.

Do you know your softener's total capacity?

Specify the settings currently programmed.

372 mg hardness X 17.1 = 21.75 grains per gallon hardness.
Add 1 gpg for the 0.12 mg/L iron

22.75 gpg X 1.2 (hardness compesation multiplier when hardness is from 21 to 40 gpg) = a softener hardness setting of 27.3 (round up to 28 gpg).

Have you been adding any resin cleaner or using iron removal salt ongoing to assist to remove iron accumulation (fouling) from the resin granules?

It is a Rainsoft EC5-100V that is 25 years old:
- Grain capacity of 30,500- 34,500 per internet
- Resin beads were cleaned by Rainsoft approximately 3 months ago
- Use Diamond Iron Fighter salt along with Pro Product Rust Out

Not sure how to adjust setting, seems Rainsoft wants to keep that out of customer control?
