We're working on a new home building process due to land topography we need to place a well 400ft from the potential house location and 12 feet lower elevation than the house. Not sure what should we expect in terms of water pressure drop and pump size for a 6-bedroom house. Adding to that we have a stream running across the property and have to cross the wetland. Any input would be greatly helpful.

The 12 foot of elevation will cause 3-4 PSI loss. With large enough pipe like 1.5" there won't be any loss in the 400' distance. I would use a 20 gallon size tank with a PK1ALT for such a large house. If it is two story I would use a 50/70 switch instead of a 40/60.

@Valveman, I need some help.

I have a family of five.....we live in a 2-story house on well water. Water pressure is always an issue.

This is my current well water system:
• Submersible deep water well pump (not sure on specs since it was installed before we moved in)
• Well pump discharges into 180-gallon storage tank in well house. This is to vent off the sulfur gas. This is high yielding well @ 610 feet.
• 1/2 HP submersible pump (7 GPM) in the storage tank supplying the pressure tank and house.
• 20 GAL Pressure tank with a 40/60 switch.

If I want constant water pressure in the house with 2 people showering at the same time, etc. what do you recommend? Can I replace the 1/2 HP submersible pump with a Jet pump to provide more GPM? Or can I just replace it with a booster pump that will maintain PSI? What specs on the pump do I need to look for? I believe the piping going into the house is 1.25" schedule 40 PVC.

Thanks,
Drew
