Hi folks!

I’m putting in a new bathtub in a house that I’m renovating. When it comes to the drain, I’m trying to figure out what determines whether or not you select a direct drain vs an offset. Is it just a matter of where the connection is to the main drain? I’ll try to attaché a picture shortly. I have full access below in the kitchen that has the ceiling currently removed. Thx!

It's just a question of where it's most convenient to have the tub tailpiece drop down to connect to the trap, trap arm, vent, and branch drain. If the tub drain is at one end of the tub, and your vent is in that end wall, the usual configuration of the tailpiece being directly below the overflow is generally most convenient. For other configurations, having the tailpiece directly below the drain may be more convenient.

Cheers, Wayne

Thanks Wayne, I appreciate the response! It’s pretty tight in there and I’m wondering about your approach on this one. See pics.
